Health 4.0 is akin to industry 4.0 and is using industry 4.0 technologies to apply personalised and virtual care and improve access to health. Health 4.0 is an early stage research concept in academia which is looking at convergence of technology.
Health 4.0 summit came out as a result of a meetup group called Health Tech Ottawa, renamed to Health 4.0 Leadership Institute where health multimedia research was shared with community members and there was a place to exchange ideas and knowledge. In light of the COVID19 pandemic our founder decided to broaden this dialogue and make it into a virtual summit, in order to cross pollinate ideas on how technology can be integrated in personal health and health care in a seamless manner.
We acknowledge the domain of Health 4.0 is nascent and at technology readiness level 1-2. However we feel it's still important to build a dialogue so that researchers can benefit from the collective knowledge and industry and entrepreneurs can be aware of possibilities and therefore create win-win research and innovation pipelines. Most times involving governance or policy is hindsight and since health is a public sector entity in many countries, we want to onboard even the policy makers ahead in time so that the needed policy innovation can take place.
This summit is bringing together people on one platform who would have not talked or got together in one room. Therefore the agenda of the first summit is just to build a common vocabulary and framework between the different stakeholders. It is bringing together researchers, industry practitioners, healthcare and public health professionals, policy makers, designers, entrepreneurs, and community members together in one place to share their learnings in digital transformation in health and create a Health 4.0 framework.
Post this summit we will deliberate on how to take this initiative ahead as an interdisciplinary knowledge platform. We aim to educate health and policy makers about the advancements in technology and aim to educate technologists about constraints and problems in health and policy that need addressal.
We are building an ecosystem for Health 4.0 workforce, research, products and services. We understand building an ecosystem takes decades and this is just the first step. In terms of where this summit fits in the global context, we are aiming to contribute toward Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3. As access to Internet becomes a fundamental need /right of a society, it becomes imperative to integrate it with health and study how it can help reduce access issues and at the same time study health challenges faced by this new digitally integrated society.
